TigerVPN homepage + review

TigerVPN was founded in 2011 in Slovakia.

It was created by Tiger at Work & Co. and has been operating for over a decade.

TigerVPN prides themselves on having amazing usability.

But how about the rest of their services? Are they private and secure? Are their servers fast? Are they well encrypted?

I’ll be answering those questions in this review. I’ll also be laying out the pros and cons of their service to let you know if I recommend them as a trusted VPN provider or not.

First, however, let’s provide a bit of background on the company so you can see if you can trust them.

TigerVPN Background

Upon my first visit to the TigerVPN website, I noticed the amazing illustration art on their homepage.

The purple color theme (and tiger mascot) are recurring themes across all pages of the site.

Clearly, the company values their appearance and brand image.

Here’s what the home page of TigerVPN looks like:

TigerVPN Homepage

It’s clean, neat, simple, and easy to navigate.

Here’s what TigerVPN has to say about themselves on their site.

“One click and you are good to go. No need to setup anything manually or being an IT nerd. TigerVPN is for everyone.”

They also explain exactly why they’re called “TigerVPN.” The company donates 2% of its profits to NGO’s that care for animals. This is pretty unique and special for a VPN service.

They claim to help animal shelters, fund sterilization programs, and pay for adoption ads.

TigerVPN is all for a good cause. So if you’re looking for a socially conscious VPN provider or you’re a huge animal lover/advocate, this is the one for you.

Again, this is all well and good. But how private and secure is TigerVPN?

How well does it perform at its sole purpose: providing a well-encrypted network to keep your information safe?

And can you access Netflix and other streaming sites with TigerVPN?

In the pros and cons below, I’ll lay out the results of my own speed test.

Before we get to that, let’s look at what others have to say about TigerVPN across the web.

Overall, the conversation seems to be mixed. While some appreciate how easy to use TigerVPN is, more recent reviews have pointed out limitations in features and inconsistent performance compared to top-tier VPN providers.

Just look at what Cloudwards had to say about TigerVPN in their October 2024 review:

“TigerVPN’s desktop and mobile apps lack some of the most basic on-off switches we’ve come to expect. This might not be so bad if we weren’t charged top-tier prices for it.”

However, it’s important to note that independent review sites often have affiliate relationships with the VPNs they review.

Well, for starters, since TigerVPN is located in Slovakia, the company and its servers are subject to a few legal considerations.

Slovakia is relatively free of censorship, and the Slovak Constitutional Court has previously ruled that mass surveillance of citizens is unconstitutional, which is good news for privacy-focused users.

However, there is still a lack of comprehensive legal framework for websites to be completely private or free to express views that may challenge the government.

Basically, the government can ban content that it finds questionable or defamatory.

All in all, Slovakia has a relatively uncensored internet that encourages free speech and press. But online media in the country is still subject to be criticized or controlled by politics.

Before we move on to pricing and speeds, let’s dive into TigerVPN’s features.

TigerVPN Compatibility and Features

One of the first things that TigerVPN mentions on its website is military-grade encryption, no logs, and strong protection.

TigerVPN encryption, no logs, strong protection

They also have native apps for all of your devices, so you can rest assured that this VPN will work no matter the device you’re downloading it on.

And since the apps are made with each operating system in mind, ease of use is pretty much guaranteed.

TigerVPN’s VPN service supports the following devices and operating systems:

  • Windows
  • Mac
  • iPhone/iOS
  • Android

TigerVPN works simultaneously on two to five devices.

You’ll get access to two devices on the monthly plan. This number increases up to five with the yearly and three-year plans.

This is a bit of a strange way to break up pricing and features, but it gives you a greater incentive to commit to TigerVPN over a long period of time.

I’ll break down pricing in the next section below so that you know exactly how each plan works.

Otherwise, you can connect TigerVPN to the following kinds of routers:

  • DD-WRT
  • Linksys e2000 (Tomato by Shippy version 1.28)

This VPN provides approximately 300 servers across 62 locations in 42 countries. That number puts them in the mid-range with the other VPN providers on the market.

Many competitors, like CyberGhost & ExpressVPN, offer thousands, while NordVPN now offers more than 5,000 servers. So TigerVPN is decidedly in the middle of the pack when it comes to server count.

TigerVPN also offers a complete list of servers on their site:

TigerVPN complete list of servers

Unfortunately, a kill switch is not available for every native app.

According to multiple reviews, a kill switch only works in the Windows App, which is a huge letdown for Mac, iPhone, and Android users of TigerVPN.

TigerVPN Kill Switch Windows Only

Kill switches are a priority when it comes to privacy.

They detect when your network connection is about to go out, and they terminate your current browsing session to keep your information secure.

I really wish that TigerVPN offered this extra layer of protection across all platforms.

Now, let’s go over how much this VPN is going to set you back.

TigerVPN Pros

TigerVPN has some positive features, especially around usability and basic security.

Let’s go over what they’re doing right before we talk about what they can improve on.

1. It’s safe and secure

While TigerVPN might have a lower number of servers, I was pleased to find that they do have excellent encryption options. Here’s a quick recap.

Is it Well Encrypted?

TigerVPN offers the industry standard AES-256-CBC encryption with the OpenVPN protocol set as default.

They also implement it with RSA 4096 and SHA512 for the handshake and authentication, which is a robust OpenVPN implementation.

This is top-of-the-line strength, and it’s as secure as encryption gets in this day and age.

As of right now, no one can crack through 256-bit encryption, even through a brute-force attack. It is essentially military-grade encryption.

However, TigerVPN doesn’t support Perfect Forward Secrecy, which is a security feature that many top VPNs now include. This creates some questions about the overall security of the service.

Is Torrenting Allowed?

Torrenting is allowed with TigerVPN, but they ask users to refrain from P2P activities on their US servers. They still support torrenting on most other server locations.

2. TigerVPN is easy to use and install

Once you’ve downloaded TigerVPN and logged into your account, this window will appear:

TigerVPN window after download

I was curious to see if a VPN running in the taskbar would be more efficient or more difficult to use than normal.

Fortunately, it’s definitely more efficient in this case.

To open the service, just click the TigerVPN icon in the taskbar.

TigerVPN icon in taskbar

Then, a list of servers will appear.

TigerVPN list of servers

Once you’re connected to the server of your choice, the platform will notify you.

TigerVPN notification

Just turn the switch to off to disconnect from a server, and that’s all there is to it.

There’s no tricky navigation, here.

Overall, I’d give it an 8/10 for usability. This is a good, streamlined interface, though it lacks some advanced features that power users might want.

3. Multiple customer support options

TigerVPN offers several customer support options, including a ticketing system and email support.

Unfortunately, according to recent reports, they no longer offer live chat support, which is a downgrade from their previous service offerings.

Just click the “Can We Help?” icon on their website to contact them.

The Help Center will then appear, where you can search for help, submit a ticket, access the knowledge base, or check system status.

TigerVPN Help Center

I tried out the ticketing system to see how responsive it was.

I received this email within a few hours of submitting a ticket.

TigerVPN Ticket Response Email

While the support is functional, the lack of 24/7 live chat puts TigerVPN behind many competitors who offer instant assistance.

4. Good long-term pricing

TigerVPN’s pricing is competitive if you’re willing to commit to a long-term plan.

The yearly plan is €6.67 per month (approximately $7.35 USD at current exchange rates), and they have a three-year plan that costs just €2.75/mo (about $3.03 USD), and you can access as many as five devices at the same time.

Plus, the yearly package comes with additional security features, such as StickyPassword Premium and Shimo VPN Manager.

This makes it quite cost-effective for those willing to commit to a longer subscription.

5. Limited streaming service compatibility

Streaming compatibility is a mixed bag for TigerVPN. Unlike many VPNs that prioritize unblocking the US Netflix catalog, TigerVPN only provides access to a few international Netflix libraries.

According to recent tests, TigerVPN can access the Spanish, Italian, and Brazilian Netflix catalogs, but not the US library, which is unfortunate as the US catalog has more titles available.

Additionally, TigerVPN struggles with other popular streaming platforms like BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+. If streaming is your primary concern, there are better options available.

TigerVPN Cons

TigerVPN has some good features, but there are several areas where it falls short compared to leading VPN services.

Here’s what TigerVPN could improve on in my opinion.

1. Questionable logging policy

TigerVPN claims to keep no logs of your online activity. Almost every VPN service I’ve seen likes to make the same claim.

However, unfortunately, that’s not entirely accurate.

Right in TigerVPN’s privacy policy, they state that they might store your personal information (such as your email address and payment information) on a third-party server.

TigerVPN applies the service of third-parties and will share your info with them based on their function.

The company also logs the chosen VPN protocol and version, your device’s operating system, the version of the VPN app you’re using, data traffic statistics, randomized country statistics, chosen server location, your favorite VPN servers, and debug information.

They claim not to monitor or log the websites that you visit or the content of your uploads or downloads when connected to the VPN, and state that none of the collected data can be used to link a user to a particular activity.

They also claim to use “third party cookies, pixels and website analytics tools to track sales promotions or advertisements and to understand which pages on the Site receive visitors.”

This doesn’t mean that TigerVPN’s security features are bad, necessarily. But beware that they do collect more data than their “no logs” claim might suggest.

2. Inconsistent speeds

Like every VPN out there, TigerVPN claims to be lightning fast.

However, you can’t just listen to every company’s marketing-speak. That’s why I always put them to the test to see how fast their servers really are.

I ran speed tests on TigerVPN’s US, Netherlands, and Hong Kong servers to see how they compare to competitors.

Here are my results:

US Server

  • Ping: 147 ms
  • Download: 14.53 Mbps
  • Upload: 4.76 Mbps
TigerVPN Speed Results US Server

Netherlands Server

  • Ping: 37 ms
  • Download: 33.60 Mbps
  • Upload: 28.42 Mbps
TigerVPN Speed Results Netherlands Server

Hong Kong Server

  • Ping: 340 ms
  • Download: 12.29 Mbps
  • Upload: 2.85 Mbps
TigerVPN Speed Results Hong Kong Server

These speeds are moderate at best and highly inconsistent. While some servers like those in the Netherlands performed reasonably well, others like Hong Kong showed significant slowdowns.

Recent independent tests confirm this pattern, with European servers generally performing better (around 30-32 Mbps) while UK and US servers averaged around 15 Mbps.

For a paid VPN service, these speeds are below what you’d expect from top-tier providers.

3. Limited advanced features

TigerVPN falls significantly short when it comes to advanced features that many users now expect from a premium VPN.

There’s no split tunneling, which would allow you to route only certain traffic through the VPN. The kill switch is only available on Windows, leaving Mac, iOS, and Android users vulnerable if their connection drops.

There’s also no option to switch protocols within the apps – OpenVPN is set as default, and you’d need to manually configure other protocols if you want to use them.

Additionally, there’s no automatic connection feature for unsecured Wi-Fi networks and no ad or malware blocking capabilities that many competitors now include.

For a service charging premium prices, these limitations are difficult to justify.

TigerVPN Pricing – Good for Long-Term Users

One of the best things about TigerVPN is that they offer a 7-day money back guarantee.

This is decent if you just want to try the service out without fully committing to locking in a monthly payment, though it falls short of the 30-day guarantees offered by many competitors.

TigerVPN offers a one-month, one-year, and three-year package.

The features are a bit different for each package, too.

Here’s how they are broken down:

The one-month package is €11.99 per month.

This is more expensive than many other VPN services on the market and comes out to €143.88 per year.

The one-month package includes access to:

  • 2 Simultaneous Connections
  • Apps for Mobile & Desktop
  • OpenVPN, IPSec L2TP, PPTP
  • 62 Locations in 42 Countries
  • Unlimited Speed
  • Unlimited Data
  • Priority Support
  • Gigabit Network
  • NAT Firewall
  • Karma Rewards Program

The one-year package is €6.67 per month.

This comes out to €80 per year, so it’s the mid-range value option.

This plan includes access to:

  • StickyPassword Premium
  • Shimo VPN Manager
  • 5 Simultaneous Connections
  • Apps for Mobile & Desktop
  • OpenVPN, IPSec L2TP, PPTP
  • 62 Locations in 42 Countries
  • Unlimited Speed
  • Unlimited Data
  • Priority Support
  • Gigabit Network
  • NAT Firewall
  • Karma Rewards Program

The three-year package is €2.75 per month.

This comes out to €99 for three years or €33 per year, making it the best value option.

This plan includes access to:

  • 5 Simultaneous Connections
  • Apps for Mobile & Desktop
  • OpenVPN, IPSec L2TP, PPTP
  • 62 Locations in 42 Countries
  • Unlimited Speed
  • Unlimited Data
  • Priority Support
  • Gigabit Network
  • NAT Firewall
  • Karma Rewards Program

I would recommend trying out TigerVPN for the full seven days before you commit to a plan. That way, worst case scenario, you can get your money back.

But on the plus side, if you like it and plan to use it for a long period of time, go with the three-year plan to save the most money.

Here’s how the company’s pricing plans are displayed on their site:

Payment methods include credit card, PayPal, Bitcoin, Paymentwall, and License Code.

TigerVPN payment methods

Now that you know all about the features and pricing of TigerVPN, let’s discuss the pros and cons.

Do I Recommend TigerVPN?

To make a proper conclusion for this TigerVPN review, I’d say it depends on your specific needs.

Good about TigerVPN:

  • If you’re looking for a VPN that’s simple to use and has decent encryption, TigerVPN is a solid option. Plus, 2% of the profits from the company go to help animals in need. So you can feel good about giving them your money.
  • Torrenting is allowed with this service, though not on US servers.
  • What I liked best about TigerVPN is that it’s super simple to install across any device and use. I love that it runs in the taskbar instead of a separate window, too, because you can access the service within any browser.
  • Pricing of the long-term plans is competitive, especially the three-year option at €2.75/month.
  • The service can unblock some international Netflix catalogs (Spanish, Italian, Brazilian).

Bad about TigerVPN:

  • The logging policy collects more data than many privacy-focused users would be comfortable with.
  • Speeds are inconsistent across servers and generally below what top competitors offer.
  • Advanced features are limited – no split tunneling, limited kill switch availability, and no protocol options in the app.
  • Customer support lacks 24/7 live chat, which is now standard among top VPN providers.
  • US Netflix access is not available, and the service struggles with other major streaming platforms.
  • The monthly plan is expensive at €11.99 with only 2 simultaneous connections.

If you want an easy to use VPN that gives back to a cause and you’re willing to commit to a long-term plan, TigerVPN is an acceptable option.

However, for users who need faster speeds, better streaming support, more advanced features, or stronger privacy assurances, I’d recommend looking at alternatives like NordVPN or ExpressVPN.

Overall, TigerVPN gets a 55/78 in my assessment.

    Gone dark

I used to really like how responsive they were with support requests, but in the last few months I haven't had any responses to any of my inquiries. I've had no issues with speed, but I've had an issue with my additional connections recently and without any help from them it's a major problem for me.

    Buyer Beware

I have a lifetime subscription and have been using Tiger VPN for a few years. Out of the blue they closed my subscription. I have tried to contact them repeatedly for weeks with no response. BAD NEWS

    Tiger VPN Crooks

Stay away from Tiger VPN. After 3 years with them, they decided to charge me 6 times at the beginning of 2020. I tried to contact support multiple times to ask why with no response. I cancelled the paypal auto payments to make sure that they didn't do it again in Feb and they immediately disabled my account. So, they pretty much stole 5 payments from me and wont respond to any emails. Crooks.

    Good for the price

I've used TigerVPN for a good 5 years after I got one of their pay 1 time for life access deals. Can't beat the price. Speeds are for the most part good. In addition to their apps they give instructions for accessing using open source options. I use OpenVPN which gives lots of options beyond what their app provides.

    Bruce 9/10 August 25, 2019

    Worth your money

I have been using TigerVPN for years. I decided to try it because Comcast and AT&T were sending notices where I was downloading via BitTorrent. After trying them out I no longer got letters regarding my downloads. However the only downfall is that your internet speed will slow down due to all your traffic going through another server. I currently have 150Mbps internet and my internet speed is 40-60 Mbps. I also don't use the app only because I'm a nerd and you can use any VPN service without and app if you know how to configure it in networking. The only thing that would make it better is to increase internet speeds which will happen. When I started with themI had 100Mbps internet and when connected to VPN it was 20 so they continue to improve. Try them out as it's free to try and you won't be disappointed unless you want a unicorn

    Great until recently

I have been using for about 2 years. It has been fast and customer service has been great but recently 3/19 their customer service has been horrendous. They don't answer the smallest email for days.

    Brian 9/10 March 29, 2018

    Best so far

I have been using TigerVPN for over 5 years and it's been the best for me. I did a lot of remote access to my company and this VPN was easy to use. I had some hacker friends try to see what I was doing online using "Wireshark" and other Sniffing software and they were unsuccessful in seeing anything other then garbage (non useful data). So for me I find it safe, easy to use and the cost well worth it.
