IPVanish and NordVPN are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to pricing. Although both offer one month, one year, and two year plans across multiple tiers (two for IPVanish and three for NordVPN), IPVanish is consistently the more affordable VPN.

With plans starting from just $2.19 a month and an unlimited simultaneous device allowance to boot, IPVanish is arguably one of the best value VPNs on the market.

NordVPN’s prices start from $3.49 monthly. Although slightly more expensive, it’s important to consider the fact that NordVPN has a far larger server network and more advanced features, including its newly released next-gen antivirus.

Server Network and Global Coverage Compared

You won’t be short of options when it comes to finding a fast local server or bypassing content blocks with IPVanish or NordVPN. The two have server networks spanning dozens of countries including popular locations like the US, Canada, and the UK.

NordVPN offers the larger server network. Its 9,000 servers in 181 locations translates to lower congestion and more connection choices. That said, IPVanish offers more than enough options for most people’s needs. It’s just that if you need a server in a less obvious location, NordVPN is far more likely to offer it.

You also have more choice in terms of specialty servers with NordVPN. If you take your online privacy particularly seriously or you’re carrying out more sensitive browsing activities, Double VPN and Onion Over VPN servers provide an extra layer of protection.

IPVanish also has Double Hop servers – its equivalent to NordVPN’s Double VPN – but that’s the extent of its specialty servers. NordVPN is the only one of the two to offer Dedicated IP address options, albeit as a paid add-on.

Speed, Streaming, and Torrenting Performance

Our speed test results show that IPVanish and NordVPN are among the fastest VPNs available. Considering our base connection of 250-251 Mbps, speeds of up to 235 Mbps with IPVanish and 242 Mbps for NordVPN are particularly impressive.

IPVanish proved faster on US West Coast, EU, and Asia servers but it was NordVPN that had the edge when connecting to our nearest server and to US East Coast servers. Overall, we had very little speed loss with either but NordVPN’s was lowest at just 10.68%.

From my experience, the speeds of IPVanish and NordVPN are such that, even when connecting to a distant server to stream in 4K resolution, you’re unlikely to encounter performance issues.

It’s worth pointing out that while IPVanish is a capable unblocker, it failed to access Netflix US and Prime Video, resulting in a 75% unblocking rate. NordVPN achieved a 100% unblocking rate – a perfect record matched only by Surfshark and Proton VPN in our latest testing cycle.

Although neither VPN supports port forwarding, they do allow P2P traffic and, again, provided you have a solid base connection, they should prove fast enough that they won’t significantly slow your downloads.

Still, both VPNs offer ad blocking and cloud storage. IPVanish also boasts a secure browser. This lets you surf the web via a cloud-hosted browser, isolating threats such as malware from your device.
