Like IPVanish, Surfshark boasts an unlimited simultaneous connection allowance, making it equally suitable if you have a lot of devices to secure or want to share protection with others.
One of the key differences however is that, with plans starting from just $2.49 a month, Surfshark is even better value than IPVanish ($2.19/month).
Surfshark’s pricing is all the more impressive when you consider it worked with every streaming service we attempted to access including Netflix US, Prime Video, HBO Max, and Paramount+.
The 9.09% speed loss with Surfshark was less than any VPN we tested, IPVanish included. If our speed tests are anything to go by – we measured 218 Mbps when connected to US West Coast servers – Surfshark is highly capable performance-wise.

Although IPVanish offers Double Hop servers, Proton VPN’s Secure Core servers are, in my opinion, a step up in that they route your traffic via a privacy-hardened country like Switzerland or Iceland.

While IPVanish isn’t difficult to use, few VPNs offer the same level of simplicity as ExpressVPN. Its desktop and mobile apps are user-friendly with little to no configuration required.
ExpressVPN’s server infrastructure runs on RAM-only so data is wiped with every reboot. IPVanish is a step behind and still in the process of transitioning to RAM-only servers.
When it came to our streaming tests, ExpressVPN wasn’t perfect, failing to access Netflix UK. Still, it worked with platforms IPVanish didn’t in Netflix US and Prime Video. We also had success with Disney+.

Like IPVanish, Private Internet Access (PIA) is headquartered in the US. Yet it has likewise proven its no-logs policy in multiple independent audits. PIA’s no-logging claims have even been verified in court – a huge plus in my eyes.
PIA isn’t a better streaming option with both VPNs struggling to access certain streaming platforms. Yet PIA offered comparable speeds and only 12.26% speed loss which is more than competitive.
Where PIA really sets itself apart is its much deeper customization and control. From adjustable encryption levels and the availability of port forwarding to the fact you can choose what you see in the app’s home view, I think it’s perfect for power users.
That PIA also allows unlimited simultaneous connections yet comes in cheaper than IPVanish from just $1.33 a month, it’s well worth considering if you want a cheap VPN with advanced customization options.
